Salty and sweet with a little bit of crunch make for an addictive combination. Its tastiness belies how very simple the recipe is to whip up. This is a perfect gift to share with neighbors or coworkers this holiday season.
1 pkg of saltines
1/2 lb butter
1 cup brown sugar
2 cups chocolate chips
3/4 cup chopped nuts (I usually use walnuts)
Preheat oven to 425 F. Place crackers in a single layer on a greased or lined cookie sheet. Melt butter in a pan and add sugar. Bring to a rolling boil and boil for 3 mins stirring constantly (this is the most important step, you will see the consistency of the caramel change and you want to stir constantly). Pour mixture over the crackers. Bake for 5 min or until edges begin to turn brown. Remove from oven and sprinkle with chocolate chips. Spread chocolate. Cool for 1 hour and break into pieces.
